Shave Ice, Cambodian popular snack #monthlytopic for June
I have promised to share about Cambodian dessert or sweet or ice-cream in the monthly topic initiated by @HiroyukiTakisawa.
ទឹកកកឈូស read as [Teouk Kok Choose] or Shave Ice is originally the snack sold only at school for school children during the break. It was pretty cheap for the school children to have it in between classes, especially in the afternoon when it is too hot, so this helps to cool down. It had ice (shred in the ice hand shredder), syrup and basil seeds.
However, in the recent years, Shave Ice become so popular, not only to kids but youth and many other generation also loves it. There are updated flavors.
There are fruits, a mix of fruits flavor and dry fruits as well.
In the photo above, Shave Ice, flavor with durian and avocado. It tastes great in different ways. If you want to add sweeten flavor, then there are condensed milk, sugar syrup and durian and avocado sauce to add. They were yummy
Even there are big café and shops that specialized in serving Shave Ice. One popular in Phnom Penh is Moto Café (Google Map is here). It often has many guests go there for Shave Ice.
Price range: different between place, between 1$-5$/dish
