The world's oldest flower
Do you know what is the world's oldest flowers? According to the biologists from Harvard University, First Orchid Fossil have been identified as first appearing on earth at some 80 Million Years Old. It is said this origin of this flower co-existed with dinosaurs.
In the 1800s, plants collectors paid thousands of dollars for a single orchid plant. Well, Orchid is the oldest type of flowers in the world, and there are around 25,000 varieties in the entire world.
- There are about 800 varieties native to Cambodia and growing around the country: from coastal area, mountain area, plateau area, central lowland). 180 varieties of orchid found only in 05 provinces. It comes in different colors and shapes, birds and animal alike shape and many others. I am fascinated by bird-alike shape orchids. They are pure color of blue, purple, red, pink, white, yellow, orange and green or sometimes mixed naturally from those colors!
- Kesoarkol or Orchid displayed in the bas relief of Banteay Srei and Angkor Wat temple that were built over 900 years ago.
- From northern Thailand, there are more than 1,000 different species of orchid.
- People loves to plant them at home because it is easy to take care and flowers stay for a long time - many months. It doesn't need much water, bigger pots, or much space.
- Orchids' blooming season is from late Fall until Spring. Orchids are mostly garden flowers, we don't use much for decorations or in the functions.
- When going trekking or hiking, you are likely to see wild orchids along the way!
