Nelson - the hidden gem

Nelson, central point of NZ and the northern part of South island. I would say Nelson and Richmond is for elder people and such a tranquil place. I love its quietness and picturesque landscape.

What can you do there?

  • Nelson can be accessed by either by road (from Wellington take a ferry to Picton through Cook Strait then drive to Nelson or back from Christchurch) and flight from any major city. Interestingly, the plane is rather small and old fashion and the airport is more like a small villa - I love it though.
  • It has many beautiful beaches including Tahunanui beach (wide and smooth) and Kaiteriteri by the Abel Tasman park
  • Very famous for its closeness to Abel Tasman National Park.
  • Nelson is home to the central point of New Zealand
  • "Tahunanui beach" is recognized as the New Zealand’s best beach. Nelson is consistently rated as the one of the most desirable places to live in New Zealand by locals.
  • There are apple and fruit farms and vineyards in this region.
Every year, Nelson provides so much job for immigrants for fruit picking

I love the beach here - wide and smooth. It is very popular for campers but also quieter in terms of tourist crowds.

  • A good place for yachting
  • A good place for kayaking
  • A good place for sunbathing
  • A good place for fishing
  • A good play for hiking
  • You can try horse riding as well.
