Tatai, another jewel of Koh Kong province

You have probably read a lot of my posts about Koh Kong province but I would like to introduce the different site which is located near the provincial town of Koh Kong called Tatai. If you go through National Road #48, this is at the 4th bridge where you will reach before heading to Koh Kong provincial town.

តាតៃ Tatai is the name of the village, the river and the waterfall. When visiting Tatai, people often hire boat (32$/round trip for up to 12pax on the boat) to go downstream to play with the waterfall. Tatai is located on very interesting location.

Among steepest roads in Cambodia, Tatai road must be one of the steepest I have ever experienced traveling. The length of the steepest is 1600ms lengths with about 200 heights between the lowest and the highest. I imagine we were on roller coaster while on that road :slightly_smiling_face:

The scenery is incredible and you can even see cloud early in the morning. It is always cold no matter which season it is. Before National Road #48 was properly built  and allowed usage in 2008, people had trouble travelled through this road. Koh Kong was like the isolated island ever and rarely visited by locals. People who wanted to commute from Phnom Penh, they had to take ferry through Sihanouk Ville so traveling was so difficult at that time. Now, that there are proper road, it is like a shined diamond and Koh Kong is my most favorite province in Cambodia.

Tatai is home to first luxurious Glampings and resorts in Cambodia and is very beautiful all seasons. Two luxurious ones can be found in Koh Kong province among all other luxurious resorts in Cambodia which you can find here in the list!

What you can do there?

  • Waterfall, big one and very pleasant to swim (not recommend to swim in rainy season - too slippery and can cause danger)
  • Many resorts floating on water, beside 4River Floating Lodge, there are Rainbow lodge, Koh Andeth Lodge and Tatai Lodge. All are floating with great scenery!
  • Fruit plantations, including durian, mango Steen, and rambutan
  • See Local way of life of local people who are mostly fishermen who live along the river.
  • Some locals here speak Thai language because before the national road was built, they commuted more to Thailand then to Phnom Penh, the capital city.
