Koh Thansour, a paradise island, part of Koh Rong

Koh Thansour is not an island; it is a beach located on Koh Rong Island. It was named after one big resort called Thansour resort [Paradise] built on this beach. This beach can be reached within two hours from Sihanouk Ville by big speedboat.

  • There are two resorts on the beach, Paradise resort and Mafia resort. Price range between 15$-80$/bungalow/night. Thansur resort offer camping grounds with party place. What impressed me was the lines of coconut trees on the
    • island.

Koh Rong (map is here) is being famous for its pristine white sandy beaches, warm crystal-clear ocean waters, and a hot tropical climate. Check this out for more detailed information about the island. Koh Thansour is just one of many beaches on Koh Rong, and actually is not a paradise like a name based on beauty and amenities. I would recommend Sok San beach or Long set beach.

There are over 30 beaches around the Koh Rong island.

    • The most famous one is Sok San beach,
    • Lonely beach [rated 10/10 on beauty],
    • Long Set beach [longest, 4km of white sand beach],
    • Coconut beach,
    • The center is Koh Touch beach and
    • Police beach. Those beaches are farther from each other, so you must make sure to look for bungalows or resort or accommodation at particularly beaches or you will spend more to explore other beaches.

Where else can you visit on Koh Rong?

There are many other beaches that are easily accessible such as:

    • Palm Beach
    • Sok san village
    • Daem Thkov Village
    • Sunset Beach
    • Nature Beach
    • Prek Svay

How to get to Koh Rong?

    • Ferry from Sihanouk Ville to KR: $25 return, time and schedule are available here
    • The cost to get to the Thansour island is 27$ return.
    • All ferry services leave from the Ochheuteal (known as ‘Serendipity’) pier in Sihanoukville and go to the main tourist beaches on the islands (Koh Touch on Koh Rong, and Saracen Bay on Koh Rong Samloem). For the return, will leave from the same pier that they arrived on. All services will go back to the Ochheuteal (Serendipity) pier in Sihanoukville.
    • Many hotels are not on the main beaches (Koh Touch / Saracen Bay), inform the the ferry about your accommodations so they will call out where you need to leave the ferry. In case they are not on the main piers, the hotel/resort where you are staying will come pick you up.
    • Names of ferries to the island are: Speed Ferry Cambodia, Island Speed Boat Cambodia, Buva Sea, Angkor Speed Ferry and GTVC. GTVC has good rate on Trip Advisor on reliable service, do check it out.
    • There are couples of $5-$10 ‘Slow Boat’ services that take 1.5 – 2.5 hours to get to the island, but beware of big waves on the way! Good time to visit from Dec - May.
    • All ferry services can be very busy and overcrowded especially at weekends and Cambodia public holidays. It is strongly recommended to book ferry tickets in advance and not miss it. Ferry tickets can be booked online.
