Why Areng a special ecotourism site?
Why Areng valley a special site?
Areng - the recent ecotourism site was created in 2015 in the purpose of forest and wildlife conservation. It is located in Thma Bang district, Koh Kong province, about 167 kilometers from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. This province is next to the seaside of Sihanouk Ville.
Areng is a special site for mild and extreme adventure activities, including:
- A place above the cloud
- A place for sunrise
- A place for trekking
- A place for hiking
- A place for camping
- A place for stargazing and comet view
- A place for swimming
- A place for local life
- A place of isolation
- A place of friendship
- A place for community Sense
Areng is just one interesting destination among others, including Chi Phat ecotourism site, Tatai and Khnong Phasaar. Going to Areng is like supporting locals and conservation through tourism activities. Areng is suitable for mild and medium adventure activities including camping, trekking and medium hiking. Mount Mrech Kangkeb is more famous for its sunrise over the cloud. Best time to visit is between November - April when the forest is dry, you don't probably want to attract leech - the bloodsucking insect.
Areng has several attractions, about 40 different destinations inside this community, but I only point two sites that are famous among locals.
- A package of One Night and Two Days on M. Mrech Kangkeb can cost you about 45$ (a package that includes camping gears, meals, guides, forest cooks, water, and other necessary items for such activities) on site, excluding your expenses on transportation and meals from other places.
- A trip to the Chhay Young Rapid - this is another camping site, similar package. Please contact the local tourism management committee (CBET) at arengbooking or visit the website of the local community at http://www.areng-valley.org/en/thing-to-do/ should you need further information.
- Other camping place including Chhay Tahing Rapid. Homestay service is available in this village too.
